Behind the Music: Exclusive Interview with Two Local Musicians

Unlocking the Beat: Why Perth's Live Music Scene is Calling Gen Z

In a world where our screens hold sway, there's a magnetic pull drawing us back to the real world, where the vibrations of live music echo through the air, inviting us to dance, connect, and experience life in full colour. Perth, with it's vibrant live music scene, stands as a beacon for Gen Z, beckoning us to step out, tune in, and embrace the rhythm of the city.

But why exactly should we prioritize live music experiences? I caught up with two local musicians, Molly and Steve, to dive into the heartbeat of Perth's music scene.

"Live music is like a shot of adrenaline straight to the soul," Molly exclaims. "It's not just about hearing the music; it's about feeling it pulsate through your veins, connecting with the energy of the crowd, and losing yourself in the moment."

Her words resonate with the truth that live music isn't just entertainment—it's an experience, a journey that transports us beyond the confines of our everyday lives. And in Perth, the possibilities are endless.

From the indie vibes of The Bird to the eclectic lineup at Amplifier Capitol, there's a venue to suit every taste and mood. Whether you're into rock, pop, hip-hop, or electronic, Perth's live music scene has something for everyone.

But the benefits of live music extend far beyond mere enjoyment. Research has shown that attending live music events can reduce stress, boost mood, and enhance social connectedness—a sentiment echoed by Molly and Steve Hensby

"Live music brings people together in a way that nothing else can," Steve explains. "It's a shared experience that transcends barriers and unites us in our love for music."

Steve alos had some advise to all people especially the younger crowd; "get out and get amongst it! Leave your homes, we need more of that......go and see the folks that I have the pleasure of playing music with, there’s this really, really great jazz scene, with some amazing players and you can find great music in Perth 7 nights of the week, which you expect in a place like New York, London, Berlin even Melbourne, but it certainly happens in Perth and I don't think people are as aware of it.

He also goes on to say that “tickets for students are Like 7 bucks and you have the chance to see these world-class musicians on a Monday or Tuesday…”

Their words ring true, reminding us that our presence at live music events isn't just about being

entertained—it's about being part of something bigger, something that brings us closer to ourselves and to each other.

So, how can we incorporate more live music into our lives? Molly and Steve have some tips to share:

1. Explore local gig guides and event listings to discover upcoming live music performances in Perth.

2. Gather a group of friends and make a night of it—grab dinner, catch a show, and soak in the atmosphere.

3. Support local artists by purchasing their music, merchandise, or tickets to their shows.

4. Share your live music experiences on social media to spread the word and inspire others to join in the fun.

In conclusion, Perth's live music scene is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. So why not heed the call, step out of your comfort zone, and let the rhythm guide you to new adventures? After all, life is meant to be lived in stereo—so turn up the volume and let the music lead the way.
