Asha learns Footy

Monday mornings on the breakfast show "The Hangover" have taken on a new mission: to turn the sports-hater Asha into a sports fanatic. Hosts Lachy and Jamie, both well know sport enthusiasts, have grown tired of Asha's lack of interest in sports and decided it's high time for an intervention. Their plan? To teach Asha the ins and outs of AFL and prepare her to deliver a post-game analysis after attending a high-stakes match.

The Challenge

Lachy and Jamie's primary goal is to ensure Asha understands the rules of footy, while Asha's personal objective is to attend a footy game and confidently provide a post-game analysis. The chosen game is a home game between the Fremantle Dockers and the Sydney Swans at Optus Stadium.

The Preparation

To get Asha up to speed, the trio enlisted the help of Stuart Stirling from the Flagmantle Podcast, known for his deep knowledge of the Fremantle Dockers. Stuart's insights into the team's players and strategies, combined with Lachy and Jamie's own expertise, provided Asha with a crash course in footy. The team broke down the basics, explained key rules, and discussed what to watch for during the game.

Footy Fundamentals

Lachy and Jamie started with the fundamentals, explaining the rules, scoring system, and player positions. Their patient explanations, Asha began to piece together the basics of footy.

Team Insights with Flagmantle

Stuart Stirling's segment focused on the Fremantle Dockers, providing Asha with detailed information about the team’s strengths, key players, and recent performances. Stuart's passion for the Dockers and his insights helped Asha understand what to expect from Fremantle during the game. This segment was crucial in equipping Asha with the knowledge she needed to follow the game more effectively.

The Big Game

The moment of truth arrived as Asha attended the Fremantle Dockers vs. Sydney Swans game at Optus Stadium. The atmosphere provided by the enthralled footy fans really helped Asha enjoy the game. Freo unfortunately lost and didn’t play at their best due to the recent news of an ex-teammates passing. Although they weren’t at their best, they still put on a wonderful game in his honour.

Post-Game Analysis

Asha discussed the key moments of the game, the standout performances, and the tactical decisions made by both teams. The new footy fan showcased her new understanding of the game even though she got lost a few times. The goal was achieved- to teach Asha footy.

Conclusion

"The Hangover" has successfully taught Asha about Footy and can now successfully join Lachy and Jamie on the weekly sport updates. You can catch them for more on Shock radio, 7am-9am every Monday morning. Amp It Up!
